Using cleaning products with unknown ingredients
Some users clean the DTF printhead surface with alcohol, dish soap, unidentified solvents, or ordinary paper towels. These substances contain high concentrations of volatile compounds or fibrous particles that can corrode nozzle electrodes, clog nozzle orifices, or scratch the surface coating.
Recommendation: Use specialized lint-free cloths and printhead cleaning fluid; never use cleaning agents with undisclosed formulas.

-
Using low-quality cleaning fluid
The quality of the cleaning fluid directly determines whether the printhead can be safely restored. Low-quality fluids often contain impurities, have unstable pH levels, or include corrosive solvents. These can damage the printhead’s surface coating, corrode internal metal structures, and cause electrode oxidation or short circuits.
Recommendation: Use only cleaning fluids certified or recommended by the manufacturer; avoid mixing products from different brands or with different formulas.
-
Failing to eliminate static electricity or ground the equipment
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is a common cause of printhead circuit damage. If anti-static gloves or grounding straps are not worn during cleaning, static electricity accumulated on the human body can discharge instantly into the printhead ribbon cable or driver board, causing electrode burnout, chip failure, or short circuits.
Recommendation: Wear an anti-static wrist strap and ensure the printer chassis is grounded before cleaning or handling the printhead. Avoid wearing synthetic fiber clothing or working in dry environments.
-
Cleaning the printhead with excessive force
Using high-pressure air guns or syringes to forcefully flush the nozzles in an attempt to dislodge ink clogs can easily deform nozzle orifices, crack internal ceramic layers, and damage electrodes. This can lead to nozzle misalignment or, in severe cases, render the entire printhead unusable.
Recommendation: Use low-pressure, buffered injection methods or specialized ink suction tools. Perform slow, cyclical cleaning at low pressure, and strictly avoid forceful flushing.
-
Failing to cut power or protect circuits during cleaning
Printhead cleaning involves electrical systems and power interfaces. Performing these tasks while the power is on risks liquid seeping into the circuitry, which can cause short circuits, board burnout, or even fire.
Recommendation: You must turn off the main power supply and unplug the device before cleaning; ensure that no liquid comes into contact with ribbon cables, circuit boards, or other internal modules during the process.

-
Prolonged soaking of the DTF printing printhead
The cleaning fluid is corrosive. Completely soaking the printhead in the fluid for an extended period (over 48 hours) accelerates the aging of nozzle seals and causes moisture-induced oxidation of internal circuitry. It can even lead to the delamination of piezoelectric crystals.
Recommendation: Limit the soaking time to no more than 30 minutes. If necessary, use a micro-circulation cleaning method: periodically inject small amounts of cleaning fluid to disperse and dissolve ink residue through flow. Dissolving the residue in stages is safer than prolonged soaking.
