DTF Printing Failing? Ink bleeding, cracking—How do you fix it?

Do you encounter issues like dull/grayish prints, nozzle dropouts (missing lines), difficulty peeling the film after transfer, or cracking when stretched during daily DTF Printing operation?

Don’t worry—these are usually minor issues related to operation or component compatibility. Here is some practical, hands-on advice!

Q 1. White ink separating or clumping at the bottom? Prints look dull/grayish, or the printhead is clogging?

Troubleshooting :

White ink wasn’t shaken thoroughly before being poured into the cartridge.

The machine sat idle for too long, leaving the ink stagnant in the cartridge.

Solutions:

Daily startup: Even without orders, print a test pattern to keep the ink circulating.

Weekly printhead cleaning: Use specialized cleaning fluid and a non-woven cloth to gently wipe the nozzle face in one direction only (do not wipe back and forth).

Q 2. Missing lines (dropouts), streaks, missing colors, or even printhead error messages?

Troubleshooting:

Printhead clog.

Loose or damaged printhead ribbon cable.

Burnt-out printhead (no ink output at all + error message).

Solutions:

Check for clogs first: Flush the printhead with specialized cleaning fluid; if it recovers, it was a standard clog.

If dropouts persist after 2–3 cleanings: It is likely not a clog; check if the ribbon cable is loose and reseat it.

If half a channel or a full channel won’t clear: Poor contact or damage to the ribbon cable.

Error message + no ink output: The printhead might be burnt out; remove it to inspect whether the ribbon cable or small circuit board sustained collateral damage.

Q 3. DTF Transfer Ink channels dropping out during printing?

Troubleshooting:

Can be caused by various factors; check them one by one:

Old or clogged ink damper.

Clogged filter.

Aging printhead.

Printhead capping station issues.

Solutions:

Flush the affected channel with cleaning fluid and print a test to observe.

Test by replacing the ink damper.

Test by replacing the filter.

Try increasing the voltage (if the printhead is aging).

Test by replacing the capping station.

If none of the above work: The printhead is aging and needs replacement.

Q 4. Ink bleeding/pooling on the PET film, or the film is hard to peel after transfer?

Troubleshooting:

Ink bleeding/running: Poor compatibility between the ink and the DTF PET Transfer printing film (low ink-holding capacity of the ink or low ink-absorption capacity of the film).

Film difficult to peel: Insufficient heat press time/temperature, excessive release tension of the PET film, or incompatible fabric.

Solutions:

Ink bleeding/running:

Replace ink (keep film unchanged) → Bleeding stops → Original ink had low ink-holding capacity; simply switch inks.

Replace PET film (keep ink unchanged) → Bleeding stops → Original film had low ink-absorption capacity; simply switch films.

Film difficult to peel:

First, verify heat press parameters: time 5 seconds, temperature 145°C.

If peeling remains difficult despite correct parameters → Switch PET film or fabric.
