The ink pump is a critical component in DTF ink printers, dye-sublimation printers, UV printers, and other similar devices, responsible for ink supply and printhead cleaning. With increased use, the ink pump gradually wears down, leading to abnormal ink supply or reduced cleaning effectiveness. Failure to replace it in time will directly affect print quality. Below are several ways to determine if an ink pump needs replacement:

01 Observe Equipment Alarms and Warning Messages
System Alarms
Some devices may display warnings such as “Ink Supply Abnormality” or “Ink Pump Failure”;
or alarms may appear indicating insufficient ink level or abnormal ink circulation. These could all be caused by ink pump problems.
02 Judge by Print Quality
Deteriorating Print Quality
Impacts such as ink skipping, ink splattering, stringing, missing colors, blurry images, and stripes;
Indicate insufficient ink pump suction or unstable ink supply, causing the printhead to fail to eject ink properly.
No Improvement After Replacing Ink Cartridges
If replacing the ink cartridge doesn’t improve the situation, the problem may lie with the ink pump or the ink supply system, not the cartridge itself.
03 Check DTF Transfer Ink Circulation and Operating Status
Abnormal Viscosity
If the viscosity value of the ink circulation system is abnormal, it may indicate insufficient ink pump suction or a malfunction in the solvent addition system.
Poor Ink Flow
Poor ink flow and the appearance of air bubbles may indicate insufficient pump pressure or aging seals.
Visual Inspection
If the ink pump housing is cracked, leaking ink, shows obvious wear, or makes abnormal noises, it indicates that the pump body is aging and needs replacement.
04 Check Related Components and Systems
Clogged Filter
A clogged ink pump filter can also cause poor ink suction. If replacing the filter doesn’t improve the situation, the ink pump itself needs to be checked.
Damaged Pressure Sensor
When the pressure display is abnormal, it may also be due to a damaged sensor. However, if the sensor is ruled out, the ink pump should be the primary focus of inspection.

05 Lifespan and Maintenance Records
Lifespan:
The lifespan of a typical brushed motor ink pump ranges from several hundred to over a thousand hours; brushless motor ink pumps have an even longer lifespan, but performance can still degrade over long-term operation.
Maintenance Habits:
If the pump body is not cleaned of ink residue for a long time or has severe ink buildup, it can easily lead to accelerated internal wear and shorten its lifespan.
The performance of the ink pump directly affects the stability and print quality of the printer. When unstable ink supply, poor cleaning effect, or pump body aging occurs, timely replacement should be considered. Regular inspection and maintenance can not only extend the life of the equipment but also avoid production interruptions caused by ink pump failure.
