As a pivotal process in the modern field of garment decoration, DTF Film Printing for finished garments involves utilizing specialized printing technology to transfer pre-designed patterns—printed in white ink onto a transfer film—firmly onto the surface of a finished garment using heat-pressing equipment. Besides, distinguished by its high pattern clarity, excellent color fidelity, and strong adhesion to fabrics. This process enjoys widespread application in areas such as personalized garment customization and brand logo production. Thereby infusing clothing with unique artistic appeal and commercial value.

(I) Equipment
Computer:
The computer serves as the critical “command center” throughout the entire DTF workflow. It bears the primary responsibility for pattern design and processing. Designers can leverage professional graphic design software—such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator—to unleash their creativity and meticulously craft their patterns. Furthermore, the computer is used to exercise precise control over the printer; through printer drivers and associated software, operators can flexibly adjust printing parameters—including resolution, color mode, and speed. Thereby ensuring the printer perfectly outputs high-quality patterns in strict accordance with preset requirements.
DTF Printer + Powder Shaker:
From a technical perspective, the DTF printer employs advanced print heads capable of achieving high-precision image output. This ensures the clarity and intricate detail of the printed patterns, allowing for the accurate reproduction of everything from complex line work to rich color gradients.
The Accompanying Powder Shaker: Its operating principle involves using a vacuum suction pump on the platform to smoothly feed the printed transfer film into the interior of the machine. Next, a layer of hot-melt adhesive powder is evenly sprinkled over the pattern on the transfer film. Subsequently, a shaking mechanism taps the underside of the film to dislodge any excess hot-melt powder, thereby preventing waste. Finally, the transfer film is conveyed via a mesh belt into a drying tunnel for the curing process. Furthermore, the entire workflow can be summarized into three key stages: powder application, powder removal (shaking), and drying.
Heat Press Machine:
The heat press machine is responsible for executing the final transfer of the printed pattern from the transfer film onto the substrate (such as T-shirts, fabric, leather, etc.). By applying specific levels of heat, pressure, and time. This process ensures that the pattern—coated with hot-melt powder on the transfer film—adheres tightly to the surface of the substrate, thereby achieving a secure and durable bond.

(II) Materials
DTF Transfer Film:
Typically, PET release film is utilized. This film features excellent flatness and surface smoothness, ensuring that the printer’s print heads can traverse its surface fluidly to achieve high-precision pattern printing. Furthermore, it possesses superior release properties. Once the heat transfer process is complete. Furthermore, it can easily peel away from the substrate without leaving any residue on the pattern. Thereby preserving the integrity and aesthetic quality of the final transfer.
Transfer Ink:
Specialized water-based inks designed for DTF (Direct-to-Film printing ) printing are employed. These inks are non-toxic and harmless, posing no adverse effects to human health or the environment. And fully comply with environmental protection standards. They feature vivid colors and high saturation levels, enabling the precise reproduction of the original design’s color palette. The ink also exhibits excellent flow characteristics, effectively minimizing the risk of print head clogging to ensure stable printer operation and facilitate continuous, high-efficiency printing workflows.
Hot-Melt Powder:
This is a novel, eco-friendly, polymer-based hot-melt adhesive in a white powder form. After drying, it fully fuses with the ink pattern. During the high-temperature heat-pressing stage, the hot-melt powder melts, firmly bonding the transferred pattern to the substrate and endowing the finished transfer with excellent wash durability and abrasion resistance.
