DTF pet film printing is an innovative printing method that allows you to print designs on a special film and transfer them onto textiles, particularly garments. It’s becoming popular due to its versatility, cost-effectiveness, and ability to print on a wide range of fabrics. Today we will share some tips for dtf printing.

If you want to do DTF pet film printing, what You Need for DTF Printing?

1). DTF Printer

A specialized printer capable of using DTF ink. Many people convert inkjet printers (like Epson printers) into DTF printers, but dedicated DTF printers are also available.

2). DTF Printing Inks

These are specially formulate pigment inks use in the printing process. The white ink is crucial for creating the white layer on the film, which acts as a base for the colored inks when transferred to the fabric.

3). DTF PET Transfer Films

The design is print on PET film, which is specially coate to hold the ink during the transfer process. These films are available in sheets or rolls.

4). DTF Powder Adhesive

After printing, a hot-melt adhesive powder (also called DTF powder) is apply to the wet ink. This powder bonds the ink to the fabric when heat is applied during pressing.

5). Heat Press Machine

A heat press is use to transfer the print design from the PET film to the fabric. Heat and pressure are apply to cure the adhesive and ensure that the design sticks to the material.

Let’s See How The DTF Printing Works:

1). Design Creation

You create your design in graphic design software (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or CorelDRAW). The design is then prepare for printing, usually in the form of a mirrored image.

2). Printing on PET Film

The design is print onto the PET film using the DTF printer. The printer lays down the design in the following order:

Colored Ink (CMYK): The colore portion of the design is print first.

White Ink Layer: A layer of white ink is print on top of the colored ink. This white layer ensures that the design is vibrant and visible on any colored fabric.

Applying the Adhesive Powder: While the ink is still wet, you sprinkle hot-melt adhesive powder over the print design on the PET film. This powder sticks to the wet ink, and any excess powder is gently shaken off.

4). Curing the Design

The powder needs to cure or semi-cured. This can using a heat press at a lower temperature or using a curing oven. This step ensures that the powder melts slightly and adheres to the ink.

5). Transferring the Design

Place the film (with the design and adhesive powder) onto the fabric, with the design facing down. Then, using a heat press, apply pressure and heat (usually around 300–320°F for 15–20 seconds). This activates the adhesive, bonding the design to the fabric.

6). Peeling the Film

After pressing, the DTF PET film can peel off the fabric, leaving the design adhered to the garment. Some DTF transfers are “cold peel,” meaning you have to wait for the film to cool before removing it, while others are “hot peel” and can be peeled immediately.

7). Final Curing

For better durability, a final press or curing may to ensure the design is fully set into the fabric and can withstand washing and wear.

DTF pet film printing is a flexible, cost-effective, and efficient method for transferring designs onto various fabrics, making it a popular choice in custom apparel and textile industries.
